Leadership Team

Central Oregon Womxn in Conservation is led by a small group of dedicated volunteers with a wide range of skills and experience. We love what we do, and we do it with passion. We look forward to working with you.

Jana Hemphill

Professional Development and Communications Teams

Jana Hemphill got her start in conservation at an early age when she annoyed her parents with her demands that they recycle. Fast forward a few decades and Jana is now the Deschutes Land Trust’s Outreach Manager. Jana collaborates on membership development, manages the database, and assists with communications. She has been an active volunteer for many years in the conservation realm—from helping with the Wildlife Response program at the Alaska SeaLife Center to volunteering with WildEarth Guardians in Santa Fe, NM and the Environmental Center in Bend. After living throughout the American West (and a brief stint in Japan), Jana has lived in Bend for the past 3 years. She enjoys being outside as much as possible, including backpacking, hiking, cross-country skiing, attempting to garden, and traveling the world with her husband.

Anya Tyson

Originally hailing from the tangled green forests of the Oregon coast, Anya Tyson now works with The Nature Conservancy to improve conservation outcomes across eastern Oregon’s arid and alluring sagebrush steppe. She studied conservation ecology and communications with the Field Naturalist graduate program at the University of Vermont. Previously, Anya led several largescale citizen science projects involving bigleaf maples, loons, and Clark’s nutcrackers. In addition to long-haul adventures, Anya enjoys ecological songwriting accompanied by accordion or ukulele.
